Submissions

Would you like to submit to Drunk Octopus? Maybe you have a band, or you’re a solo artist, or a photographer/journalist who wants to contribute their work? 
We love receiving material from all sorts and there is no discrimination in what we accept. We will consider submissions from all genres of music and art. We are very inclusive and encourage people from all over the world and of various cultures and backgrounds to submit to us. Just make sure you follow the guidelines, or your submissions will not be considered!
All submissions must be e-mailed to drunkoctopusmagazine@gmail.com, no exceptions. 
Our guidelines are as follows. 

MUSICIAN/BAND SUBMISSIONS:

If you would like us to review your EP, send us a link to the EP and/or a physical copy, a copy of the album art in jpeg or NEF format, and a photo of you/your band. Please make sure photos have attached credits for who designed the album art and who took the picture. SUBMISSIONS WITHOUT CREDITS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. In addition, send us a link to your band’s page on Facebook, ReverbNation, and any other format you use. Make sure the photos attached are good quality as we will not be able to use anything taken with a cell phone, selfies, or super blurry/grainy images.

If you would like us to review your music, send us all your bands social media links and several photos of your band that are good quality, preferably both on stage and off stage. Include credits for who took the photos. SUBMISSIONS WITHOUT CREDITS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. If we decide to review you, we will send you a series of questions to answer which will be included in our article. You also have the option to recruit one of our team to come to one of your shows to photograph you and interview you in person for a small fee, if this is your preferred route please state that in your initial email and you do not have to provide photos. Give us a list of your upcoming shows and we will respond with our availability and pricing. Price is dependent on location.

ARTIST SUBMISSIONS: 

If you would like us to review your art, send us all links to your art on social media. Facebook, Instagram, website, etc. Please include 3 pictures of your art that are good quality (not blurry, good lighting). Include credits for who took the image of your art. You may also upload a scan of your art if it’s a 2D piece such as a painting or drawing. Those do not need credits. Include a photo of yourself as the artist, however you would like to portray yourself. No selfies, no cell phone images. Include credit for who took the photo of you. SUBMISSIONS WITHOUT CREDITS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. If we decide to review you, we will send you a series of questions to answer which will be included in our article. You also have the option of recruiting one of our team to come to one of your art shows (if you do that) to photograph you/your art and interview you in person for a small fee; if this is your preferred route please state that in your initial email and you do not have to provide any photos. Give us a list of all upcoming shows and we will respond with our availability and pricing. Price is dependent upon location.

CONTRIBUTOR SUBMISSIONS:

If you are a photographer and/or journalist and would like to submit some coverage of a music/art show or something music and art related, please send everything you have to our email. You will need to provide all the photos you want to be considered, and we require at least 6 for each article. Please only submit photos of good quality with professional equipment as we cannot accept any cell phone photos or images taken with a P&S camera (point and shoot). Please ensure your photos are not blurry, extra grainy, have poor lighting or are otherwise poor composition. Include names of every musician or artist featured in each photo. Background people are not required to be named as long as they are not the focus of the image or article. Include all links to the featured artists social media. Your articles do not have to be super lengthy, but try to make them more than a couple paragraphs. We like content and so do our readers!
SUBMISSIONS WITHOUT CREDITS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
We accept submissions of art shows, music shows, fashion shows, EP reviews, introducing a new musician, artist or designer, and articles about anything involving art (i.e. someone is doing something artistic in the community as a statement). If it is creative, we want it!

THIRD-PARTY SUBMISSIONS:

If you are a manager, record label, agency or other individual/business who wishes to submit something art-related for a review or article, please send everything you want to be included in our review or article in your initial email. Photos are required whether it is album art for a musician EP, photos of the musicians, photos of the artists, photos of the locations, and so on. Include credits for everyone in the photos and everyone who took the photos as well as any album art designers and such forth. If it’s a fashion show, for example, include credits for all makeup artists, hair stylists, models, designers and other brands involved. Include these credits FOR EACH PHOTO. If it’s an art show, credits for each artist, what their medium is, the location where the art show is being displayed and other people involved directly. SUBMISSIONS WITHOUT CREDITS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Please provide all social media links for the people you are wanting featured. If we decide to review them, we will send a series of questions for the people involved to answer which will be featured in the article. Make sure all photos and art being submitted is uploaded in a web-ready jpeg or NEF format, and that the images are good quality. We will not publish super blurry, grainy or poorly lit images unless that is the point of the article or subject matter.

FOR EVERYONE:

Keep in mind that just because you follow these guidelines does NOT guarantee publication. We base everything on what order we receive submissions in, so you can be assured you are one of many in a long list! If it gets to be too long since we received the submission and we never got to it, we will probably skip it because the content would no longer be relevant. There are some exceptions. If you have sent us something and we have not responded within 10 days, feel free to email us again. You may submit as often as you like! We are always taking submissions and we look forward to seeing what you send us!
